The mignon watermelon or baby watermelon is a particular variety of small watermelon, reaches a maximum of 2.1 kg in weight.
The organoleptic and taste characteristics are the same to traditional watermelonvarieties, but certainly, its small size makes it ideal for transport and for the needs of a single-family or even a single person.
The mignon watermelon, like its larger relative, has a very limited degree of conservation after cutting, its pulp maintains its properties unaltered for no more than 24 hours.
After a day its consistency goes softer and the flavour becomes slightly alcoholic due to the maceration of sugars.
Once opened, therefore, it is necessary to keep the cut parts in the fridge:
- if you have cut the fruit into pieces by completely removing the peel, we advise you to place all the pieces in an airtight container and consume them as soon as possible;
- if, on the other hand, you have cut only the consumed slices from the fruit, you can put the leftover piece of watermelon in the refrigerator (the small size of the baby watermelon will help you find a breakfast). By doing so, the duration will be greater, because only the part of the watermelon exposed to the air will tend to deteriorate.
Before being cut the watermelon has an excellent rate of preservation. Before consuming, keep in a dark place at a temperature of 7-10°. Cellars or basements are ideal, avoiding the refrigerator if possible.
